Abstract:

Eleven species of mammals have been identified in the area of the National Park, with the possible presence of four extra species, of the Chiroptera class, in the vicinity of the area's borders. The area hosts Crete's only endemic mammal, the Cretan lesser white-toothed shrew. Occasional sightings of the endangered Monk seal have been documented and 20 mammalian species in total are being monitored with varied temporal coverage.
