General Site Description: 

Senda Darwin Biological Station is located along Route 5 south, at a distance of 14 kilometers from the city of Ancud, in the north of Chiloe Island. It aims to facilitate scientific research, environmental education and the application of knowledge for temperate forests conservation.

Purpose of Site : 

The purpose of this site is to develop ecological research on temperate ecosystems, particularly forests and other plant formations, along with associated fauna. It also develops teaching focused on pre and post-graduate studies, as well as disseminating scientific information to local inhabitants and the general public.

History of Site: 

The site was established in 1993 by a group of scholars interested in the study and conservation of the forests of the island of Chiloe. Since then it has developed long-term ecological studies of biodiversity of flora and fauna, ecological processes and experimentation. Teaching and outreach activities are also performed.
