Description
The air quality monitoring centre in Illmitz is located in the Lake Neusiedl National Park about 1.5 kilometres from the village of Illmitz and is part of the national Austrian background monitoring network and the Europe-wide pollutant monitoring network. It has been in existence since 1978 and records gaseous and particulate air pollutants and meteorological parameters.
The measurement data, which have been available since 2010, are used to monitor air quality, record background pollution and its trend, record cross-border pollutant transport and validate Europe-wide air pollutant models.
The Federal Environment Agency produces a daily air quality report for the air pollutants nitrogen dioxide (NO2), particulate matter (PM10), ozone (O3), carbon monoxide (CO) and sulphur dioxide (SO2).
