Geology
The bedrock is composed of Neogene age sedimentary rock, classified in the Awa Group. In more detail, it is classified in Kiyosumi formation. Kiyosumi formation is flysch-type alternating sandstone and mudstone, and is characterized by a predominance of thicker turbidite sandstones.
Vegetation
Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) and some cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa).
Soils
Soil is classified as Cambisol (brown forest soil). The average soil depth is 2.87 m in watershed A and 2.22 m in watershed B (Shiraki et al., 1999).
Hydrology
It rarely snows and most precipitation is rainfall. About 20% of rainfall deeply percolated and discharged without going through weirs [Oda et al., 2008]. The mean transit time was estimated as 1068 days [Oda et al., 2009].
