Purpose
The site aims to protect the valuable Curonian lagoon ecosystem, especially spawning and migration areas for fish Alosa fallax, Salmo salar, Pelecus cultratus, Aspius aspius and lampreys Lampetra fluviatilis. The site regulations also protect migratory waterfowl as Cygnus columbianus, Anas acuta, Mergus merganser, Mergus albellus, Larus minutus and the places for regular concentrations of Haliaetus albicilla.
