Counts of Zerynthia rumina in Doñana

Counts were conducted along predefined transects walking at a slow, constant pace and counting all butterflies within an imaginary box, 2.5m to each side and 5m front and above (see Pollard 1977

Van Swaay et al. 2012). Counts were performed between 10 and 14h (local time), in days with slow winds (below 5 in Beaufort scale), and temperatures above 13°C for sunny days (60% sunshine minimum)

or above 17°C if cloudy. Each transect was divided in sections according to easily recognizable points or habitat changes. Counts were attributed to these sections
