Three Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) forest sites (30-40 year old, 50-70 year-old, and 150-200 year-old)on sandy podzolic soils in the central part of the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve.

Devonian sandstone
Vegetation
Scots pine Pinus sylvestris stand,with sparse Juniperus communis and Picea abies undergrowth. Forest floor vegetation was dominated by Vaccinium myrtillus, V. vitis-idaea and Melampyrum pratense. Moss cover consisted mainly of Hylocomium splendens and Pleurozium schreberi.
