Krivoklat forests and xeric grasslands - Czechia
Krivoklat forests and xeric grasslands
The Protected Landscape Area and Biosphere Reserve Křivoklátsko is mostly covered by broadleaved forests that are valuable by high diversity of flora, fauna and communities. This biodiversity is increased in deep valley of the Berounka River with xeric grasslands on the southern slopes. Inversion of vegetation belts is typical of narrow valleys of the Berounka River tributaries. Monitoring of vegetation changes and soil properties in natural forests (since 1994) and xeric grasslands (since 2004) is the main focus of the LTER sites. Continuously with vegetation changes, studies on soil fauna in forests were carried out.
General Characteristics, Purpose, History
The effect of ungulate grazing and browsing on forest and nonforest vegetation and soil fauna on background of climate change have been carried out since 1993. Special equipment such as microclimatic dataloggers, hunting cameras for monitoring microclimatic extremes and game density, material for fencing survey plots and material for sampling (soil traps) and determination of soil macrofauna have been used. Regularly soil chemical analyses have been processed
Monitoring of vegetation changes and soil properties in natural forests (registered since 1994) and xeric grasslands (registered since 2004) is the main topic of ILTER sites. Continuously with vegetation changes, studies on soil fauna in forests were carried out.
